Learfield Sports and Learfield News are the two primary operating units of Learfield Communications, Inc., which was founded in 1972. Learfield’s original name, Missouri Network, Inc., was a product of Clyde Lear and Derry Brownfield that eventually grew from a small farm network heard over six Missouri radio stations into a diverse media enterprise with hundreds of employees and corporate headquarters in Jefferson City, Mo. Learfield Sports launched in 1975 with the radio rights to the University of Missouri. Today, with more than 600 people, Learfield Sports represents more than 100 collegiate properties with agreements that are broad in scope and include management of a wide variety of sponsorship, media and marketing inventory. In the beginning, the only available medium we could offer to corporate partners was radio.
