Our History

Learfield Communications, Inc. was founded in 1972. Learfield’s original name, Missouri Network, Inc., was a product of Clyde Lear and Derry Brownfield that eventually grew from a small farm network heard over six Missouri radio stations into a diverse media enterprise with hundreds of employees and corporate headquarters in Jefferson City, Mo. If you’d like to read some of Clyde’s first-person recollections of those early days, we’ve collected some from his personal blog.

Learfield’s first foray into sports was in 1975 with oversight of the radio rights to the University of Missouri, a partner still today. Learfield represents 120 collegiate properties with agreements that are broad in scope and include management of a wide variety of sponsorship, media and marketing inventory. In the beginning, the only available medium we could offer to corporate partners was radio. Today we create multimedia marketing solutions and offer multiple complementary resources for our corporate sponsors. Our history in the marketplace has given us unparalleled experience.
