Finkner rejoins Texas Tech Sports Networks as the play-by-play analyst for Lady Raider Basketball

LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech Athletics and Learfield’s Red Raider Sports Properties announced Wednesday the addition of Mark Finkner as the newest Voice of Lady Raider Basketball.

“We are excited to announce Mark Finkner as the new voice of the Lady Raiders,” Head Coach Candi Whitaker said. “Our fans will be excited about his return to Texas Tech Athletics. Mark brings great experience and I look forward to working with him.”

Finkner returns to the broadcast after covering 1,000 Texas Tech athletic events over 34 athletic seasons in football, men’s basketball, baseball and volleyball from 1995-2012. He replaces Ryan Hyatt who stepped down after three seasons.

Tech-property-logo-image“I am honored to have the opportunity to be back court side with a great Lady Raider program,” Finkner said. “As a Tech alum and knowing the history and tradition of Lady Raider Basketball, this is truly a special opportunity.

“After meeting Coach Whitaker for the first time, I know there are going to be many special moments coming very soon! I am truly privileged, humbled and honored to be back on the Texas Tech Sports Network.”

Finkner called over 700 baseball games for Texas Tech from 1995-1999 and again from 2001-2007. In that tenure, he called all four conference baseball championships and 30 of the Red Raiders’ 33 NCAA tournament games.

The 1992 Texas Tech graduate also spent 12 seasons with Red Raider Football, three as internal public address at home games from 1995-1997, before going to the field as sideline reporter for the Texas Tech Sports Network from 1998-06. He also did public address for Red Raider Volleyball for two seasons (1995 and 1996).

“We are thrilled Mark has agreed to come back and be a part of the Lady Raider program,” Senior Women’s Administrator Judi Henry said. “Not only is he one of the best as an announcer, he’s also a tremendous person.”

Finkner was involved with Red Raider Basketball as either full-time or fill-in play-by-play from 2003-2012.

Finkner and his wife, Jennifer, have two children, Landry and Kody.
