BLOOD CENTER OF NEW JERSEY, SETON HALL ATHLETICS SIGN FIRST EVER ATHLETIC SPONSORSHIP

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ – The Blood Center of New Jersey (BCNJ) has partnered with Learfield Sports’ Seton Hall Sports Properties, to be recognized as the “Official Blood Center of Seton Hall Athletics” beginning in the 2014-15 athletic season.

In partnership with Seton Hall Athletics, BCNJ will conduct monthly blood drives allowing students and faculty to participate in giving blood. In early 2015, BCNJ will host a kickoff blood drive event on campus featuring the Pirate cheerleaders and prizes including featured alumni autograph sessions, Seton Hall gear, autographed merchandise and a chance to win tickets to select athletic events. Locations and dates are still being determined for all blood drives and will be released via www.shupirates.com once they are confirmed.

“As the ‘Official Blood Center of Seton Hall Athletics’ our goal is to raise the awareness of the constant need for blood and blood products and encourage the entire Pirate Nation in participating in this effort,” said Director of Donor Recruitment and Donor Services, Jerry Antoine for BCNJ. “Seton Hall University has a rich history of community service for assisting those in need. With BCNJ’s community blood program, the student’s and faculties generosity continues through monthly blood drives on campus. This allows everyone an opportunity to participate in saving lives. We are extremely grateful for this wonderful opportunity and look forward to servicing the humanitarian needs of the Seton Hall Community.”

BCNJ is the oldest independent blood center in the state of New Jersey, serving the needs of hospitals and patients for over sixty-seven years. Operating out of two permanent sites in New Jersey; Parsippany and West Orange, BCNJ must operate up to five mobile blood operations daily in order to meet current demand for blood and blood products. The blood center must collect upwards of one hundred twenty five units of blood daily to meet current demand. BCNJ’s administrative offices are located in East Orange NJ and serve hospitals and patients in 14 of the 21 counties in New Jersey.

“It is exciting to officially align Seton Hall Athletics with the Blood Center of New Jersey,” said Seton Hall Director of Athletics Patrick Lyons. “This partnership contributes to our overall commitment to enriching the community and doing our part to enhance the well-being of others. One pint of blood can save three lives which makes hosting these events on campus so meaningful.”

In addition to the partnership with athletics, BCNJ is working with and encourages all clubs, fraternities, sororities and other interested groups on campus to join in this effort to raise awareness and donations.
