MEMPHIS, Tenn. – With the school year underway, many children and youth already have their school supplies and clothes. And, for 50 kids, Ashley Furniture Home Stores (AFHS), in conjunction with Learfield Sports’ partner University of Memphis Athletics, is going to give them one more item for the 2014-15 school year – an entire bed set – this Saturday, Aug. 23.

Ashley Furniture is hosting “A Hope to Dream” event on campus at the Larry O. Finch Center and Student Recreation Center gymnasium, located at 624 Echles Street.

Fifty kids that do not have beds will receive an entire bed set. Each bed set includes a twin mattress set, pillow, sheets and comforter.

“A Hope to Dream” is an initiative started by AFHS to provide children in the community who do not have a bed to call their own – their very own bed. A portion of all mattress sales at AFHS goes toward supporting the “Hope to Dream” program.

Saturday’s event also includes a campus tour, and the University Book Store is providing gift bags for all the children in attendance.

The event begins Saturday at 9 a.m. (CT) with registration, breakfast and announcements at the Anfernee “Penny” Hardaway Hall of Fame at 570 Normal Street on the UofM campus. From 9:45-11 a.m. (CT), the children will take a University of Memphis campus tour via the Blue Line. The campus tour will show the children the University Center, University Bookstore, Elma Roane Fieldhouse and an auditorium classroom.

At 11 a.m. (CT), the tour stops at its final destination, the Finch Center/Student Recreation Center where the children with meet Tigers head coach Josh Pastner, play games and be surprised with their very own bed set to take home. Pastner and executives from Ashley Furniture are scheduled to speak at the event.

The event’s festivities wrap up at 12:30 p.m. (CT).
