It was a collaborative effort for non-profit organization Feeding South Dakota on Tuesday night, as South Dakota Corn representatives were joined by staffers from Learfield Sports’ Coyote Sports Properties and Jackrabbit Sports Properties; University of South Dakota and South Dakota State University student-athletes; as well as athletic department representatives from each school.  Rivalries aside, they all came together to volunteer for the BackPack program for Feeding South Dakota.

A total of 3,583 backpacks were filled to be given to children ages three to 18 who live in Sioux Falls and 11 surrounding communities. Additionally, volunteers packed more than 10,000 pounds of food onto 26 pallets!

The South Dakota Showdown Series, launched November 2012 and presented by South Dakota Corn, is a year-long collegiate athletics and academic competition between SDSU and USD.  Complementing the competition aspect, the schools and South Dakota Corn designated the state’s primary hunger relief operation – Feeding South Dakota – as the non-profit to benefit each year.  Learfield Sports manages the athletic multimedia rights for South Dakota State and University of South Dakota.
