A few weeks ago I wrote about Jim Lipsey, who served us 18 years. But before him, Gene Davis helped Derry with the daily broadcasts. Gene–who’d worked for the Missouri Department of Agriculture–was with us less than a year before moving on.

To spare Lipsey, we hired Don Osborn in late summer, 1974; he’d stay for ten years before going into full-time farming. Osborn was a Missouri grad, worked for the Extension Service at Purdue for 13 years and managed both a seed-corn company and a beef-feeding operation.  All we needed to teach him was broadcasting.  He got pretty darn good.  In the early 80s we asked Dan Coons to come aboard as a writer/reporter. This picture shows Dan, Don and Derry preparing for a broadcast.
